Key : Water Sensitive Development, Low Energy Building
This private villa complex, situated on a steep slope along the Ayung River in Ubud, is truly special. The contour varies in height by up to 55 meters from the entry point to the farthest edge of the land near the river. From the river’s edge, there is an additional 15-meter cliff, providing privacy from the passing rafting tourists while still allowing for tranquility and scenic views. Initially, the villas were intended to have rice paddies on their roofs and revive the subak system, which had been inactive for over a decade. However, this plan was abandoned because the adjacent land had been developed into the Mandapa hotel. Instead, grass was proposed for the roofs to ensure that from Amandari above, the view remains green rather than filled with buildings. The water hydrology is maintained by adding numerous retaining walls. The sound of the river and water features in each villa will make this place distinctive with the soothing sound of water.
